“Basava Smruti” Metal Shelter Construction @ Malabad school/college,

“Basava Smruti” Metal Shelter Construction @ Malabad school/college,

near Athani in Belagavi district

Dear Friends and well-wishers,

Warm greetings to you all!!

We are excited to share with you one of the most significant projects undertaken by the Uttara Karnataka Snehaloka (UKSL) Trust, Bangalore. Our dedicated members have embarked on an ambitious endeavour to construct a robust metal sheet shelter atop the school/college building in Malabad, Athani taluka, within the Belagavi district.

This shelter was built on the school’s terrace and is serving as a multifunctional space. It will provide a larger area that can be utilized for daily prayers, yogasana sessions, serving nutritious breakfast or lunch and hosting various school programs and events.

It is worth mentioning that this school/college is under the management of Vimochana Sangha Athani, and all its students come from challenging backgrounds. They are either children of devadaasis, hailing from economically disadvantaged families, or are orphans. These students are enrolled in different classes and are provided with meals through the Sri Guru Basav Prasad Trust.

The school/college is led by Shri B. L. Patil, a recipient of the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award in 2021, and he also holds an esteemed position as a member of the UKSL Trust.

We have undertaken this project for several compelling reasons:

  • We are committed to assisting underprivileged children, including the offspring of devadasis, orphans, and the marginalized.
  • Our endeavour aims to provide support to students in the less fortunate and northern regions of Karnataka.
  • We are proud to be associated with Shri. B. L. Patil, who has dedicated his entire life to uplifting the children of devadasis.
  • It’s an opportunity for us to extend our support to a fellow member’s institution.

Our journey began almost a year ago when trust members visited the location and were deeply moved by the pressing need. After obtaining several quotations, the estimated project cost was determined to be approximately Rs. 9 lakhs, which would cover an area of around 4800 sq ft.

We kickstarted the donation drive with initial contribution of Rs. 1 lakh from UKSL trust and thanks to the generosity of our contributors, we were able to finally raise Rs. 2.5 lakhs only.

We express our heartfelt appreciation to trust members Mr. Mahantesh Veerapur, Mr. Mallikarjun Hosamani, and Mr. Ravi Shirolkar, as well as trust secretary Mr. Prakash Rajagoli for their invaluable contributions in finalizing the design and selecting the vendor for the construction of the metal shelter.

After multiple discussions and negotiations, we successfully selected the materials and labor costs with Mr. Sachin Hosamani of Dharwad, who, along with his team, completed the work in 10 days by working day and night!!

Special thanks to Mr. B L Patil (President Vimochana Sangha Athani) and Mr. Vishwanth Nilare (Principal Malabad college) for their “in person” monitoring the project progress.

We also extend our gratitude to Vimochana Sangha for generously providing shelter and food at no cost to the construction workers during the execution of project and demonstrating the spirit of unity and support that drives this project.

We appreciate each one of your support and look forward to making a meaningful difference in the lives of these deserving children. Thank you for being a part of this noble cause.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your generous contributions to “Basava Smruti”, the Metal Shelter Construction Project at Malabad School/college near Athani.

Notably, we had the honor of welcoming UKSL Trust vice president Mr. Arun Yadwad, Secretary Mr. Prakash Rajagoli, Trustee Mr. Deepak Alur, and member Mr. Mallikarjun Hosamani travelled all the way from Bengaluru to take part in the inauguration ceremony. The function was well organised by school authorities.

During the ceremony, we had the privilege of honoring Shri ma ni pra Prabhu Channabasava Swamiji of Motagi mutt Athani popularly known as “Athaneesha” and Mr. B L Patil. In a touching exchange we were all blessed and honoured by Swamiji.

Additionally, we made a significant contribution of Rs. 11,111 to the Gurubasava Prasad Trust, which operates hostel facilities for the students. Trustee Mr. Deepak Alur family and friends donated one refurbished laptop (worth Rs 40 K) on the occasion.

Mr. Patil welcomed and introduced us to the audience. He admired the helping hand extended by UKSL trust by building “Basava Smruti”, metal shelter. Dr (Mrs) Bharati Bijapur narrated the association of UKSL trust during the North Karnataka floods in 2019 and Covid era during 202-21.

Mr Arun Yadwad and Mr. Prakash Rajagoli addressed the gathering of 100 odd students.

Here are a few snapshots from the memorable inauguration ceremony held on the 1st of October, 2023. Your support has made a remarkable difference, and we are profoundly thankful for your generosity.

We appreciate your support and look forward to making a meaningful difference in the lives of these deserving children.

Thank you for being a part of this noble cause.
